Cleopatra

The first modestly large, layered-with-subtext, multi-figure painting was completed in the new studio on March 9th, 2012.  I am very pleased.  Finally.

How do I know it is finished?  I can’t stopy admiring it without thinking that absolutely nothing needs adjustment.  So many beautiful moments: the mysterious shadows, the other-worldly mirror, the red shape after-thought, the 5 brush stroke hand, the pensive gaze, and, of course, the detail (seen in person in February in the Capitoline museums).
