Painting for me is an endless walk in a vast woods: a meandering search for the trails of the heroes who traveled before, a tangled assembly of knowledge, material and experience, and a treasure hunt that balances empirical analysis with intuitive action.
Of special note: these are no ordinary woods. They are centuries old. Maybe millennia. Any ‘new’ trees that try to grow here are readily deprived of the sun. Only convincing realities of timeless narratives and evocative subject matter endure.
My goal in painting is never easy, but easy to define: make something worthy enough of these woods to remain.
