{"id":2362,"date":"2014-11-29T14:00:41","date_gmt":"2014-11-29T12:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.americanartistinrome.com\/plog\/?p=2362"},"modified":"2014-11-29T14:02:04","modified_gmt":"2014-11-29T12:02:04","slug":"from-odd-nerdrum-to-igor-stravinsky-and-a-favorite-quote-on-the-creative-process","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.americanartistinrome.com\/plog\/2014\/11\/29\/from-odd-nerdrum-to-igor-stravinsky-and-a-favorite-quote-on-the-creative-process\/","title":{"rendered":"From Odd Nerdrum to Igor Stravinsky and a Favorite Quote on the Creative Process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have a recent habit of saving\u00a0a variety of essays, forums posts and articles I find on the internet as PDFs then assembling them into one bundle, which I print as a bound book and\u00a0carry around with me for a month or so to read and contemplate. \u00a0In the latest collection I included an article I found on the &#8220;Artcyclopedia&#8221; entitled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artcyclopedia.com\/feature-2004-02.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Importance of Being Odd: Nerdrum&#8217;s Challenge to Modernism<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In it, I was especially taken with the following anecdote regarding his entry to the National Academy of Art in 1962: &#8220;The application had included three paintings. Two of them were reasonably finished, while the third one had been hurriedly thrown together to meet the deadline.
