A great honor to be included in this book. Cover painting by Helene Knoop.
The Nerdrum School
My reaction to the book after receiving a copy, November 14th, 2013:
I remember with great lucidity my last critique from Graduate School. It was the fourth critique in two years. Despite the significant challenges I had faced in that time (which included the risk of expulsion after the first year), I somehow managed to turn things around; the final body of work was a pleasant surprise to all, including myself. At the end of that favorable critique, one of my painting colleagues, Ben, came up to me and said, “congratulations on the work, it makes me want to paint.” That was back in 1998.
To this day Ben’s comment strikes me as one of the greatest compliments a painter of like mind can give to another; the recognition that what you have produced inspires another to return immediately to the sanctuary and continue the quest is a great reward.
I received today in the mail a very special book: “The Nerdrum School.” My thanks and congratulations to all involved in producing the book and my sincerest compliments to all the fine painters included.
It makes me want to paint.
Update: August 2014
A real thrill to discover the book in the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. during my summer visit.
